I was born in Monrovia, Liberia, in the midst of a civil war. For our safety, my mother made the courageous decision to relocate us to the Ivory Coast, where we lived for five years. During that time, my grandmother filed for us to immigrate to the United States. On March 15, 1995, we landed in New York and soon after, we settled in New Jersey. My childhood there played a crucial role in shaping my identity and self-esteem. I attended Clinton Elementary School, South Orange Middle School, and Columbia High School. As a teenager, I was blessed to have a mother who constantly poured into me reminding me of my beauty and worth every single day. Still, I often encountered backhanded compliments like, “You’re so pretty for a dark skinned girl,” which left me wrestling with confusion and insecurity. Deep down, I knew I was beautiful but fully embracing who I was? That took time.
It wasn’t until college that the real transformation began. I started to understand the power of boundaries, the necessity of self awareness, and most importantly, the beauty of discovering my true identity. That journey of self-discovery opened my eyes, healed old wounds, and set me on the path toward becoming the woman I am today. In 2016, I launched a blog called Better Perfect Me a space created to empower women to grow, heal, and chase after the best version of themselves. Life soon took a different turn, and I stepped away to focus on building my family and nurturing the love around me. Now, I’m back with a new name and an even greater purpose. What began as BetterPerfectMe has grown into Better Perfect YOU; because this journey isn’t just about me anymore. It’s about you. Your healing. Your growth. Your evolution.
Today, I am a proud mother to my beautiful daughter, and my miracle baby boy, I’m the oldest of three and an aunt. And of course, none of this would be possible without my incredible mother, Elizabeth. Your strength, sacrifice, and unwavering love are the foundation of everything I am. Thank you for always believing in me.
To my fiancé, Jack Sr. thank you for loving me deeply and unconditionally. Your support has been my safe space, and your love has given me the courage to grow, heal, and thrive. I am endlessly grateful for you.
This is only the beginning Better Perfect YOU is back. And so am I.
