The holidays are often described as “the most wonderful time of the year.” But for many of us, that isn’t always true. Sometimes, the lights, the songs, and the celebrations bring up memories that are hard to face.
For me, the holidays carry both joy and sadness. I lost my uncle around this time of year the last memory I have with him was during the holidays. Every year since, the season brings a mix of warmth and grief. And I know I’m not alone in that.
If you’ve ever felt your energy fade as the days get shorter or found yourself feeling heavy when everyone else seems joyful, you might be experiencing seasonal depression. It’s real, and it deserves compassion not shame.
Here are some gentle reminders if you’re struggling this season:
You’re not broken for feeling sad when others are celebrating.
It’s okay to honor your emotions while still allowing small moments of joy.
Surround yourself with people and spaces that bring you comfort.
Seek help if you need it therapy, support groups, or simply talking to someone you trust can make a difference.
If you need resources:

Remember: even in the darkest seasons, light still exists. It might be dim, but it’s still there and so are you. You’re not alone, and your feelings are valid.
